We were able to visit with America's First Lady Michelle Obama in the Whitehouse. With our 10 children (9 present and 1 in heaven) we were able to be a living image of PROLIFE!! We pray for our President and First Lady and their family to have a conversion and become believers in "ALL LIFE is precious!!!" We thank God for the chance to see our nations great history in Washington and participate in the "2010 March for Life." - Joe and Christine Geniesse
Help! We need money and twin beds.
Dear Family and Friends of The Place 2B,
It is that time of year when people are busy with summer activities and family vacations. Summer is a great time of year.
In past years, it has been common for our shelter population to go down and we could catch up on work to be done, fixing things and just getting a breather from many people needing help. Well, this year there is no break. We are still having a population of 100 people or more. The needs have never been greater. The amount of utilities, food and personal care items is highest this summer than any summer in our 36 years of serving.
If that weren't enough, we also need to do some expensive upkeep on the buildings and grounds. We need to attend to our parking lot to have it patched and cracks filled and sealer used on entire lot. This costs $16,000. We need the roof replaced on Mother Teresa Center and some other routine repairs and projects. We have nice facilities and need to be sure they remain in nice condition or it will really costs us in the long run. We just did some electrical updates that will save money in the long run but did just costs alot in the short run.
So our plans to do routine expensive upkeep coincided with God sending more people to be with us through the summer. This economy is supposed to be taking an upswing with more jobs, well I'm not seeing it yet with the people with us looking so hard for permanent jobs.
It is great that we are here and will continue to care for the poor. It is Jesus asking and we will say yes! If you can help with anything on our needs page, it would be helpful. But the 2 things we need most urgent is money and beds. Money to replenish our emptying checkbook to pay for the increased costs. Also, we need beds to replace old beat up mattresses and box springs. We mostly need twin beds but could use a few larger beds too.
As a fund raiser we are renting out 15 of our retreat center rooms for the EAA Convention. If you know of anyone that needs a room, we are asking $100 per night for those rooms. We also have a giant rummage sale coming up in July to raise money.
