Easter Peace 2012! On March 2, 2012 we had a beautiful celebration with thanks to God for the benefactors who make our work possible. We had Mass and dinner with over 100 people. There was a snow storm that evening so our Bishop had to cancel coming here to pray with us. He sent us a beautiful blessing which was read before dinner. Father David Duffeck celebrated Mass with us and did a great job filling in for Bishop Ricken. We were quite disappointed the Bishop had to cancel but were very happy the evening went well.
We have become a new sponsor for “American Heritage Girls” here in Oshkosh. Moms and daughter are involved in a new form of scouting for girls and we are happy to have them be a part of our ministry to youth. American Heritage Girls is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the mission of building women of integrity through service to God, family, community and country. We look forward to many times of fun and growth for young girls and teens here at Father Carr’s Place 2B. For more info go to: http://www.ahgonline.org/WI5413
We just finished St. Patrick’s Day, which marks the 70th birthday for Father Marty Carr. Oh how the man loved the feast day of St. Patrick. He was Irish and born on the feast day which our country celebrates so heartily. Father Marty loved his birthday and always found a special way to celebrate. It also marks a fifth anniversary of his preparation for death. After he celebrated his 65th birthday he faced 90 days of suffering and died on June 17, 2012. He experienced in those 90 days, two amputations, a lot of infection throughout his body and succumbed to diabetes on Father’s Day. So as we finish this Lent, 5 years after Father Carr spent his last Lent, we remember first of all Jesus’ sacrifice of his life so that we have a chance to live forever. He accepted this sacrifice to make all other sacrifices have eternal reward possible. Father Carr saw a lot of suffering here with many people experiencing their toughest times in their lives while being here. He ministered to the lonely, homeless, hungry and sick. Ultimately he gave of himself totally as a sacrifice for others, so evident in those last 90 days of his life. I am praying a 90 day novena from his birthday to his anniversary of dying. I invite you to do the same. I offer my attendance at daily Mass, quiet daily prayers and service to others as a spiritual gift to Father Carr. I don’t know if the church will ever recognize him officially as a Saint but for those of us that knew him close, we realize his dedication to the Eucharist, love for the poor and virtuous life has earned for him an eternal reward. I pray that his Sainthood will one day be recognized by our Holy Mother Church.
We must continue to all work together to carry on the work Father Carr started. He answered his call from God to serve; “As a Priest, I will make the entire world my altar and on it I will offer all the suffering of the world!”- (Pierre Teilhard de Chardin) Now we must continue to care for Christ as he asks us for help. This past year in 2011, over 200,000 times we were asked to care for the suffering Christ. We are so busy with requests for help. The cost has gone up and we are in need of financial help now more than ever. Please reflect on how you can help us pay bills and get caught up. We need to be here and beg you to send us what you can. In memory of Father Carr’s last 90 days of suffering, I ask 90 something from you. 90 day novena, 90 dollars, 90 cents, 90 thousand dollars, 90 jars of peanut butter, 90 boxes of cereal, 90 hours of service, ask 90 people to send us money, 90 cans of vegetables, 90 minutes of prayer, 90 gallons of milk, etc. Please come on June 17, 2012 at 4:00 pm to pray together at Father Carr’s graveside. We will have a dinner to follow here at Father Carr’s Place 2B. We Thank God for the love you have shown. May God Bless You and Your Family!

Volunteers needed!
We are searching for volunteers to come help us serve the poor.
We need:
Mentors: Men to mentor for the men in our homeless shelter. Women needed also to mentor women. To be a good role model for them to see opportunities and support in achieving success. This includes assisting with goal setting, planning, reflecting, job search, paperwork, apartment search and money management.
Greeters: Answer phones and greet guest looking for help, volunteers and donors.
Maintenance: People to help with light repairs, cleaning, painting and yard work. To be a volunteer, you can schedule once a week or a couple times a month as well as if you want to do a one time project.
We are most in need of people who can give 4 hours on the same day of the week. For instance, every Tuesday from 5-9pm.
